Being Savvy: Activities, things to do with your preschoolers, toddlers and kids in San Antonio, TX

On Wednesday, my son and I along with a truckload of preschoolers went to Pottery Barn (at North Star Mall) to see Joe McDermott put on a concert.  It is so cute to see kids where there are not a lot of limitations on them- they just act so goofy.  They don't care what they look like as flop on the ground like a fish out of water.

It was our first time to go, I would definitely recommend going to the next performance they offer.  If you haven't already done so, sign up for Pottery Barn's emails.  They also have a schedule of upcoming events on their website.  My first thought when I heard there was a concert at Pottery Barn was, where, but it works.  They use the very back room for the actual concert, set up with little chairs for the kids and a couple of big chairs for adults.  If you don't get there early (I highly recommend doing so) you either stand in the next room without a chair or on the sides next to the chairs.  The first two rooms are saved for strollers.  We arrived at around 9:50 for the 10:00 performance and were able to get a chair (for him, not me).  It worked out nicely though, my daughter (who is still in an infant carrier) and I sat on the floor right next to his little seat on the end of the row.  This wasn't a place to stretch out and get comfy, but the performance is only 30 minutes so very tolerable.  Afterward, Joe McDermott sells his four CDs and autographs them.  My son was probably the only kid there not familiar with his music, but it didn't stop him from having a blast.  I will now have to add Joe's CD to his music repertoire so my son will be ready for the next concert.  Did anyone else get to go to the concert?

We missed it (and seeing you all!) this time but we love Joe and have attended two great concerts of his at PB. Excellent time!--Colleen

Kids are a funny bunch. They are often loath to change and anything new. But still, our little ones are open to so much -- and so much more than we more ossified parents are! Think of poetry: preschoolers happily read and repeat poems with ease and ...Read more >
