Roxaboxen came to an end and a new fabulous play is beginning. The Dinosaur Musical started April 28th and will run until May 30 at The Magik Theatre. Here is the exciting description of the play from the theatre: Just what exactly happened to the dinosaurs?

This is a predicament I often find myself in. It is slowly getting easier as my daughter is more mobile, but we have had to be creative in activities we can do all together. Although my kids are only two years and a few months apart, it can seem like they are worlds apart- except for these activities we can do all together.

Pre-math activities for preschoolers involve lots of counting and simple addition or subtraction. The former teacher in me slips through much of the day and I can't help but squeeze the math out of each activity. My son can count pretty high, but we are working on simple addition and subtraction. It is definitely harder to do, but the way we practice everyday he will understand it soon enough.

It is a well known fact that most kids LOVE music. They love to make it, jam to it, and listen to it. My son has been bee-bopping through his little life, enjoying all music that comes his way. I have always wanted him to be in a music class, but wanted him to be old enough to enjoy it. He just turned three and I knew this was the perfect time. I wanted to find something different than say the Read more...
"Active" or consumable gifts
December 16, 2008
Sometimes I will be playing with my kids or cleaning up their toys and will get overwhelmed at all of the 'stuff' they have! We don't have a huge house, and if we don't make my son put up one toy before taking out another, we can begin to get claustrophobic. Or, if I am organizing and cleaning their toys, I realize how many they just don't use! That is why my husband and I appreciate when loved Read more...
A little football fun
September 24, 2008
Have you taken your child to a sporting event yet? Why not try your local high school football game? We are early into football season so there is plenty of time to make it to one. We took our son last year and he loved it (when he was two), but we took him this past weekend and he LOVED it (he is almost three). There is so much to look at and do besides watching the actual football game. Read more...
Relax with yoga
September 15, 2008
If you weren't already aware, it is National Yoga month in September. Kids naturally want to run around, exercise, and follow the leader, so yoga is great for little ones. They can copy the instructor as they do the positions and have fun while doing it. We also know how important it is for children this age to be practicing their gross motor skills, and there is no better way to do than Read more...
Most (free) fun your child will have at Pottery barn
August 29, 2008
On Wednesday, my son and I along with a truckload of preschoolers went to Pottery Barn (at North Star Mall) to see Joe McDermott put on a concert. It is so cute to see kids where there are not a lot of limitations on them- they just act so goofy. They don't care what they look like as flop on the ground like a fish out of water. It was our first time to go, I would definitely recommend Read more...
Summer music playlist -- the top five CDs your kids will love

1. The Parakeet Album: Songs of Jimmy Buffett I'm a Parrothead so it's not by accident that our daughter's name is Delaney . For a die-hard fan like me there's almost nothing more fun than introducing my kids to Jimmy Buffett and all things parrot. The Parakeet Album makes Buffett's music accessible to children by featuring his greatest and child-friendliest tunes (Volcano, Jolly Mon Sing, Off Read more...
Mozart, Moby or Miles: The can't-miss summer music happening this week
June 25, 2008
I've mentioned the preschool-savvy song stylings of Austin's Joe McDermott before and how he whips the little ones into a frenzy with his amazingly catch tunes. But Joe's not making a visit to San Antonio until August. For those whose children just can't wait, or for those of you whose children have yet to experience the quirky charm of Joe's preschool hit list, you can make the 25-minute drive Read more...

Pottery Barn Sing-Alongs One of the best-kept secrets in town (unfortunately for Pottery Barn marketing execs) is Pottery Barn's Sing-Alongs. Held several times each year, the concerts feature regional superstars from the preschooler music scene. Favorite Austin performer Joe McDermott makes regular appearances in San Antonio at the Barn and he drives the kids to dancing with wild abandon. Read more...
