99 Things To Do With Your Child Before They Grow Up
February 24, 2009
There have been a couple of posts where I mention must-dos with your child before they grow up. Here is the complete list!! My family is no where near done, but having fun trying. We will have to repeat a lot of these with siblings, but there is definitely no harm in that! Did I miss any? We can add them on for others to complete. How many have you done?
- Join a Playgroup. Sometimes your neighborhood has one, or a local church. Check Mommy Connection because they were able to locate a playgroup for my friend in her area.
- Attend a storytime at least once a month. Check Barnes and Noble, The Red Balloon, or your local library for ideas and times. 3
- Let your child choose what he wants to do for the day. Does he want to play at Chick-Fil-A or would he rather go to his favorite park? Does he want to meet up with his buddy from playgroup or ride his bike out front? He will be delighted.
- Go on a nature walk. My son came home from Mother's Day Out and was on cloud nine because of a nature walk. They were given a bag and told they could pick anything off the ground. He came home with leaves, acorns, rocks, twigs, etc., and was eager to tell me all about it. Kids this age love to collect things and put them in bags, lets face it- their bag kids.
- Take a cooking class. Young Chefs Academy offers preschool cooking classes. If you'd rather spend the money elsewhere- just cook with them at home. Let them pour pre-measured ingredients, mix, and even pour.
- Go to the San Antonio Children's Museum. It's all about them at the Children's Museum.
- Enjoy a cupcake or a cookie as a treat together. Go to a place like Kate's Frosting and bond with your kid over cupcakes. It's a win-win situation.
- Ride the train at the zoo. Only time my son sits still!
- Take all riding vehicles, bikes, scooters, sporting equipment, etc., and head to the local park. We like Camp Bullis Playground. Read more...

Today we are going to discuss Potty Training. That job we get as parents to get out of the diapers and into the bathroom. I don't know about you, but it is one of my least favorite responsibilities as a parent. Not that changing diapers or pullups is fun, but potty training just seems so ... I don't know ... time consuming? Here to help are Sean and Cindy Platt (* http://writerdad.com/)* Read more...
Places (and resources to help your little one) to start journaling
January 14, 2009
Scrapbooking is a way to express yourself creatively. It can also be considered therapeutic and a way to let the stresses dissipate. It allows you to journal about memories through stories and photos. If these are all the reasons an adult scrapbooks, it would most definitely be the same for a child. A preschooler is the perfect age to introduce scrapbooking to. They LOVE art, telling stories, Read more...
Top 5 things that are important to preschoolers
January 06, 2009
Our writing assignment this Tuesday was one I could write with my eye closed in my sleep! I couldn't wait to find out what my son's personality was going to be after he was born- now I get to experience on a minute to minute basis. He is three years old and full of life. He probably has the same concerns and interests as any other three year old. I came up with a personal list of things that Read more...
Happy New Year!
January 01, 2009
Wow!! Happy New Year! 2008 has come and gone and we are on to 2009. I am not usually into resolutions, but in the spirit of trying to be a better parent- I have a few. Feel free to add any I should make a resolution that you may have. 1. I want to turn the T.V. off more. Ever since my youngest was born, the T.V. has been a (I hate to say it) "babysitter" in times of need- like when I need Read more...

Let me introduce myself...
July 29, 2008
Hi fellow San Antonio parents! My name is Emily. I am a resource for you while you and your preschooler find new things to do each day around our city. I am in the same boat as you! I have a 2 and a half-year-old son and an infant daughter. I recently stopped teaching 5th grade to stay at home with them. I want to see their first experiences and am anxious to teach them as much as possible. I Read more...
Tents/Forts/Play-spaces -- Why kids love a second home
July 07, 2008
Children are used to adults being in charge. We tell them what they can eat, where they can play, when to go to bed and what behavior is appropriate. It's no wonder they can't wait to escape to a place where they get to make the rules. Whether it's a backyard playscape, a treehouse, a tent, or a simple fort made of blankets stretched over the living room furniture, preschoolers are drawn to Read more...
All About Me: Time Alone for Mom or Dad or Mom & Dad
June 20, 2008
Let's face it. It hasn't been about you since the baby was born. And the more children you have the less time you have to yourself or with your significant other. As parents we all know that we need time to ourselves to refresh and refuel. We know how important time with our spouse or significant other is for the survival our relationship. But yadda, yadda, yadda, that's just preaching to the Read more...
