Christmas
Merry Christmas!
December 25, 2008
Today I am having my Mom and brother over for breakfast and to watch the kids open presents. I am making french toast with powdered sugar snowmen on them. As a special treat we are getting delicious cinnamon rolls from a bakery we love. Healthy, I know. But, it is Christmas- so rules are out the window. We go to church on Christmas Eve so we don't have to rush around and get ready for anything. Read more...
Holiday baking
December 24, 2008
I am not a great cook. That wouldn't affect anyone if I just stayed out of the kitchen- but I don't. I really wish I was a decent cook or baker and so I go by the quote, "practice makes perfect." I have definitely come a long way, so I can't help but want to try some holiday recipes with my son. There are a couple that I have managed to not mess up. The first one I tried, Cornflake Wreaths Read more...
Neighborhood Lights
December 23, 2008
I have written in an earlier post about where to see the lights and mentioned one neighborhood. If your kids are wound up tighter than a clock in anticipation of Santa, it may be wise to take a drive in search for the best decorated house in San Antonio. Here are a few more suggestions of neighborhoods to check out. 1. I already told you about Windcrest. This neighborhood has been bringing us Read more...
A christmas education
December 22, 2008
My son just turned three in November, so really I am still new to all this. At least that is what I convince myself when I find myself making dumb mistakes. Maybe someone can relate (I say hopefully)? My husband and I still remember three years ago with our itty bitty one month old celebrating Christmas. We decorated the entire house before being induced the Monday after Thanksgiving. I didn't Read more...
Christmas books
December 19, 2008
I thought I would share some holiday books that are favorites in our house. We borrowed a few of these from the library and now I want to keep my eyes peeled at the after Christmas sales to hopefully add them to our collection. 1. Dream Snow by Eric Carle. What kid hasn't dreamed of a white Christmas? The illustrations are the best, as usual! 2. Dora the Explorer- To the North Pole by Read more...
Christmas movies
December 18, 2008
My son barely makes it through an episode of Sesame Street. So, movie watching is usually not an activity in our house. That is why when he actually sat and watched quite a bit of A Charlie Brown Christmas, I was excited. I was partly excited because I grew up watching that every Christmas, and the other part of me looked into the future and saw that eventually we will be able to have Movie Read more...
The Advent Calendar
December 17, 2008
We actually have three Advent Calendars. I have a cloth one my Mom handed down to me that we used as kids (I think it came from Current or Avon) and a cloth one I picked up at the dollar aisle at Target. I also have a wooden house one that my son enjoys opening and closing the doors. We fill the doors with special treats or trinkets. My son can't wait to open the door for the day and find out Read more...
Gingerbread house kits
December 10, 2008
I enjoy doing crafty activities with my son. Unfortunately, my expectations are usually too high for a boy who just turned three years old. In my mind, the project goes so smoothly we could be in a commerical for whatever we are making. There would be Kodak moments involved and afterward the project would look Martha Stewart magazine worthy. Notice I said- "in my mind". The reality is the Read more...
Great Toys
December 04, 2008
With the holidays just around the corner, here are some toys to consider while buying for your children. There are even some educational ones in the list- they won't make you feel as guilty! Birthday Party Birthday Cake My son just finished celebrating his 3rd birthday and that is all we heard until the day, "is today my birthday? when is my birthday?" We could have used this, especially Read more...
