Top 5 Things to Do Before Summer is Over

August 04, 2009

After I purchased my son's backpack for preschool (eek!) and got the "welcome" letter from his school; I started to panic.  What had we not accomplished this summer that I had vowed to do?  Was there anything we couldn't possibly do once school starts or would be harder to do?  I came up with a list that our family is going to be crossing off as well get done.  Are there any on your end-of-summer-must-finish-before-school-starts list?

It is Waaaay Too Hot To Be Outdoors

July 09, 2009

First off, could it be any hotter?  Watching the weather is depressing- even more so for the mother of a pre-schooler- because my first thought is, "what the heck am I going to do with my kids that is indoors?!"  We will sometimes go to the pool in the morning but usually stay indoors the rest of the days.  If we dare brave going out in the afternoon, we are sweating just getting in the car!  With a high of 100 degrees forecasted for Saturday and the rest of this weekend, here are a few air-conditioned! places to take advantage of.

The Circus Came to Town

July 06, 2009

On Friday night my family headed to the 'greatest show on Earth'- the Ringling Brothers Over The Top Circus.  I hadn't been to the circus in years and really didn't know what to expect.  I was pleasantly surprised with how much the show is the still the same!  Before we went I let my son peruse the Ringling Brothers website to know what to expect- and to be excited about it!  We planned on going an hour before to check out the animals (they are out for viewing an hour and a half before the show until thirty minutes before the show starts) but didn't make it in time.   Read more...

March 09, 2009

It is Monday, the start of Spring Break.  If you are not going out of town this week, why not have a staycation!  Well, at least go out to eat for a treat with the kids tonight.  There are a couple different restaurants that aren't known for being a "kid" restaurant, but are definitely kid-friendly.   You may have heard of these favorites.

An Interview with Emme

February 23, 2009

Eating disorders is not something we typically associate with our preschoolers, but we should be aware of it.  Eventually our preschoolers will be pre-teenagers (GASP!) and no matter their size they need to have healthy attitudes towards themselves and others.  I was lucky enough to be in on a conference call with supermodel, Emme.  She is a nationally recognized body image and self esteem advocate.   Emme has twice been selected as People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful Women.

Emme is working with Yale University's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity to educate our country about weight bias, weight discrimination and wants to share with you helpful ways to teach your children about the harmful effects of weight bias and how to support a child in your life who is the victim of such a horrible experience.

I am bringing you this interview as the week of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week begins.  Please take a moment after reading this post to visit the site!

Don't forget about Seussical the Muscial playing  Read more...

Savin' some cash

September 10, 2008

I am all about saving money where I can, although it can be hard when you have kids. You finish paying preschool tuition for the month but then get a bill in the mail for the strep test your pediatrician sent off for. So, if there is a chance to save- why not check it out? I had heard rumblings from friends about deals they had scored at local second-hand shops. I decided to check out a  Read more...
