Fun Pranks For April Fool's Day

March 31, 2009

April 1st, or April Fools Day is tomorrow.  I finally think my son is at the age where he will get the joke in a good April Fools joke.  Some ideas are from Jenny Meade, the City Editor in Kansas City, Missouri.  I posted her link for some cute April Fools ideas.  I got many of my ideas from Family Fun (do you get this fabulous magazine?) magazine and on-line.  Also print out Disney's April Fools print-ables.  Check out these other ideas:

Spring Break and Other Activities

March 06, 2009

Have you discovered the new website, Moms Around SA?  It is from the people that brought you My Mommy Connection.  They felt that this new website would help all Moms of kids of all ages, whereas the former My Mommy Connection only helped Moms of little kids.  If you are looking for things to do, this is another great resource.  Under the Kidtivities tab, there are many places to try out.  Even if you have heard of some of them, they sometimes offer tips or specials you didn't know about.  I have also listed the information from last week about classes or camps for Spring Break.  If you want to avoid the whole, "I'm bored" routine, sign them up for a camp (call about these camps, most of them still have available space).   We have an early Spring Break this year- it is in two weeks (March 9-13)!  If you were thinking about enrolling your kiddo in a fun class or camp, now is the time to do it before everything fills up.

An Interview with Emme

February 23, 2009

Eating disorders is not something we typically associate with our preschoolers, but we should be aware of it.  Eventually our preschoolers will be pre-teenagers (GASP!) and no matter their size they need to have healthy attitudes towards themselves and others.  I was lucky enough to be in on a conference call with supermodel, Emme.  She is a nationally recognized body image and self esteem advocate.   Emme has twice been selected as People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful Women.

Emme is working with Yale University's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity to educate our country about weight bias, weight discrimination and wants to share with you helpful ways to teach your children about the harmful effects of weight bias and how to support a child in your life who is the victim of such a horrible experience.

I am bringing you this interview as the week of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week begins.  Please take a moment after reading this post to visit the site!

Top 5 Preschool Math Activities

February 10, 2009

Pre-math activities for preschoolers involve lots of counting and simple addition or subtraction.  The former teacher in me slips through much of the day and I can't help but squeeze the math out of each activity.  My son can count pretty high, but we are working on simple addition and subtraction.  It is definitely harder to do, but the way we practice everyday he will understand it soon enough.

Camps and Classes in San Antonio

February 02, 2009

There are a couple of classes I have wanted to enroll my son in for the spring. It is hard to price and compare them. I feel like almost any class I enroll my son in helps him learn and grow. It teaches him how to act socially and in a more structured environment. Besides, my son is a doer. He loves to get out of the house and go do things. This wouldn't be a problem if we had tons of money to  Read more...

Holiday baking

December 24, 2008

I am not a great cook. That wouldn't affect anyone if I just stayed out of the kitchen- but I don't. I really wish I was a decent cook or baker and so I go by the quote, "practice makes perfect." I have definitely come a long way, so I can't help but want to try some holiday recipes with my son. There are a couple that I have managed to not mess up. The first one I tried, Cornflake Wreaths  Read more...

Gingerbread house kits

December 10, 2008

I enjoy doing crafty activities with my son. Unfortunately, my expectations are usually too high for a boy who just turned three years old. In my mind, the project goes so smoothly we could be in a commerical for whatever we are making. There would be Kodak moments involved and afterward the project would look Martha Stewart magazine worthy. Notice I said- "in my mind". The reality is the  Read more...

Cookie Exchange Party

November 14, 2008

I am new to the Cookie Exchange party- but wish I wasn't. If you haven't been to a Cookie Exchange Party, I will briefly explain how it works. It can be as formal or informal as you want. It is fun if you invite people that know each other- but they don't necessarily need to know one another. If you are hosting the party, ask each person to bring one extra dozen of their cookies than people  Read more...

Read here before snack shopping

September 04, 2008

After my son stopped eating baby food at a year he became an extremely picky eater. It did have a lot to do with the many allergies he had, because he couldn't eat various healthy foods and I guess just got used to it. Gradually, especially in the past few months, his eating habits have vastly improved. But, there are still times where I go back over the day and shake my head thinking about  Read more...

The littlest foodie: kids cooking camp at Central Market

June 11, 2008

My mother hates to cook and that's probably why I grew up not knowing how to chop, broil, bake or braise. I'm a mess in the kitchen; my husband, Roger, swears my IQ drops at least 50 points any time I enter that room of the house. And if it wasn't for Roger's amazing culinary skills and his love for cooking, our family would either starve or live at Mickey D's. I'm thrilled that, under their  Read more...
